What is Pressure Converter?
Pressure is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area.
Understanding the Units
Pascal (Pa)
SI unit of pressure. One pascal equals one newton per square meter.
Common Uses: Scientific measurements
Bar
Metric unit approximately equal to atmospheric pressure.
Common Uses: Weather, tire pressure in Europe
Conversion: 1 bar = 100,000 Pa
Pounds per Square Inch (PSI)
Imperial unit of pressure.
Common Uses: Tire pressure in US, hydraulics
Conversion: 1 PSI = 6,895 Pa
Atmosphere (atm)
Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level.
Common Uses: Diving, chemistry
Conversion: 1 atm = 101,325 Pa = 14.7 PSI
Common Conversions
- Car tire: 32 PSI = 2.2 bar
- Sea level atmosphere: 1 atm = 101.3 kPa = 14.7 PSI
- Scuba tank: 200 bar = 2,900 PSI
- Bicycle tire (road): 80–120 PSI = 5.5–8.3 bar
Conversion Formulas
- Pressure = Force ÷ Area (P = F/A)
- PSI to bar: bar = PSI × 0.0689
- Bar to PSI: PSI = bar × 14.504
- Pascal to bar: bar = Pa ÷ 100,000
- Atmosphere to Pascal: Pa = atm × 101,325
Practical Examples
Car tire: 32–35 PSI = 2.2–2.4 bar (typical recommended pressure)
Bicycle tire (road): 80–120 PSI = 5.5–8.3 bar
Blood pressure: ~120/80 mmHg = 16/10.7 kPa (systolic/diastolic)
Scuba diving at 30 m depth: ~4 atm = 400 kPa = 58 PSI
