    What is Flow Rate Converter?

Flow rate is the volume of fluid that passes through a given surface per unit time.

    Understanding the Units

    Liters per Minute (L/min)

    Metric flow rate unit.

    Common Uses: Plumbing, pumps

    Gallons per Minute (GPM)

    Imperial flow rate unit.

    Common Uses: Plumbing in US

    Conversion: 1 GPM = 3.785 L/min

    Cubic Meters per Hour (m³/h)

    Large volume flow rate.

    Common Uses: Industrial applications

    Conversion: 1 m³/h = 16.67 L/min

    Common Flow Rate Conversions

    Example Flow Rate
    Shower head (water-saving) 6–8 L/min = 1.6–2.1 GPM
    Garden hose 15–20 L/min = 4–5.3 GPM
    Fire hydrant 1,000 L/min = 264 GPM
Human heart (at rest) ~5 L/min = 1.3 GPM blood flow

    Conversion Formulas

    • Flow Rate = Volume ÷ Time (Q = V/t)
    • L/min to GPM: GPM = L/min ÷ 3.785
    • GPM to L/min: L/min = GPM × 3.785
    • L/min to m³/h: m³/h = L/min × 0.06
    • m³/h to L/min: L/min = m³/h ÷ 0.06

    Practical Examples

    Drinking water tap: 6–8 L/min = 1.6–2.1 GPM

    Household water heater throughput: 10–15 L/min = 2.6–4 GPM

    Industrial pump: 500 m³/h = 8,333 L/min = 2,200 GPM

Irrigation drip line: 2–4 L/hour per emitter (very low flow)

    When to Use Each Unit

L/min: Plumbing, medical devices, small pumps — metric standard
GPM (gallons per minute): US plumbing codes, irrigation, fire suppression
m³/h (cubic metres per hour): Industrial processes, HVAC, large-scale pumping
