JPG is the right target when the PSD is finished and someone just needs to look at it — it is a fraction of the size and opens anywhere. It is the wrong target if any more editing is coming, because JPEG is lossy and every subsequent save degrades the image further. Note that transparent areas cannot survive: JPEG has no alpha channel, so anything transparent in the PSD is composited onto white here rather than turning black, which is what a naive conversion produces.
