Grayscale Is Not Just Removing Colour

Stripping saturation to zero is the naive conversion, and it usually produces a flat, muddy image — because colours that look very different can carry nearly identical brightness. Good black-and-white conversion compensates with contrast. This tool opens with saturation at zero and contrast nudged to 110%, which recovers most of the separation that removing colour costs you. From there the brightness and contrast sliders let you push it toward a softer or harder look before you export.
